Makes 4 small teacups of Digestive tea.
Ingredients:
- Ginger, crushed slightly: 5cm piece
- Coriander seeds: 4 tsp (crushed)
- Ground Cinnamon: 1/2 teaspoon
- Star Anise (make sure it is Chinese star anise, not Japanese, as the Japanese variety may be toxic) : 4 pods
- Palm jaggery (or brown sugar) or honey: to taste
- Milk of your choice (optional)
You could substitute any of the above ingredients for a piece of fresh turmeric, for it’s wonderful anti-inflammatory and liver protective properties.
Method:
- Bring 4 cups of water to boil. Add the ginger, crushed coriander seeds, ground cinnamon and star anise pods; lower heat and simmer for 3–4 minutes. Remove from heat and strain.
- Add the palm jaggery or honey and stir until it dissolves.
- Add milk if desired
- Serve hot.
Ginger is a wonderful anti-inflammatory
Star Anise may help to settle bloating, nausea, constipation and cramping.
Coriander seeds may help digestion by reducing bloating, constipation and indigestion. It is also an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, so it may be important to help reduce the damage done by the intermediaries produced by an overactive Phase 1 Liver Detoxification pathway.
Cinnamon is an amazing anti-oxidant as well as stabilising blood sugar which makes it fantastic as an after-dinner digestive tea. Like coriander seeds, it could be very important for Phase 1 Liver Detoxification.
